Ice Monsters Don't Concede Goal, Win Midlothian Megablast
The Advanced U-14 Girls Virginia Rush Ice Monsters, with some talented guest players from the Rush Thunderstorm and Wildcats, were division Champions at the Midlothian Megablast, held on November 22-23, 2008. The girls won four games against teams from Madison, Chesterfield, and Richmond, by a combined score of 27-0. Close calls for top women's seeds NCAA Tournament
UCLA defeated defending champion USC, 1-0, in the marquee match of the third round of NCAA Division I Women's Tournament. Top-ranked Notre Dame needed an overtime penalty kick from Kerri Hanks to beat unseeded Minnesota, 1-0. Stanford also struggled to put away unseeded Rutgers and had to settle for a 1-0 on a late goal from Kelley O'Hara. The fourth No. 1 seed, North Carolina, extended its scoreless streak to 671-plus minutes with a 3-0 win over Illinois. The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team advanced to the championship game of the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, defeating Germany 2-1 in a classic semifinal that saw goals from forwards Vicki DiMartino and Courtney Verloo pull the USA back from a 1-0 first half deficit.

In what is a reoccurring theme in Women’s World Cup tournaments, the USA will face Germany in a semifinal match, this one coming at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Nov. 13 at QEII Park in Christchurch, New Zealand. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. local time (1 a.m. ET) and will be the second semifinal of the day, following the North Korea-England clash which kicks off at 4 p.m. local. Two Rush Alum Carry VT to ACC Championship Game
Two days after a penalty shootout over last year's National Finalist and #2 seed Florida State, Kristin Carden came up with three big saves in another shootout to beat Virginia, leading the #7 seeded Hokies to the ACC Championship game against #1 seeded North Carolina Sunday at 1:00 PM in Cary, NC. Julian Johnson is starting up front for the Hokies. Best of luck to both players and the Hokies on Sunday.

[UNDER-17 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP] The USA recovered from its 3-2 loss to Japan in its opening game at the Under-17 Women's World Cup in New Zealand and defeated Paraguay, 3-1, on Sunday. In a game that saw Coach Kazbek Tambi make eight changes in his starting lineup from the opening game, the Americans fell behind at halftime but recovered to win with three second-half goals.
